Toll rates for larger vehicles

The express version

  • Nearly all personal passenger vehicles, including full-size pickup trucks and SUVs, qualify to pay the standard toll shown on the sign.
  • But vehicles taller than 7 feet or longer than 23 feet are charged three times the posted standard toll. If a vehicle is both taller than 7 feet and longer than 23 feet, the toll will be five times the standard toll.
  • No matter the size, HOV-3+ vehicles, motorcycles and buses still ride for free. Vehicles with more than 2 axle cannot travel the Lanes.

No matter what you drive, the Express Lanes can get you where you need to go faster and more reliably. But if you’re driving something larger than a typical passenger vehicle, you may pay a higher toll.

Large Vehicle Rates

Rates 101

Nearly all passenger vehicles are under 7 feet tall and less than 23 feet long. We charge vehicles of this size the standard toll rate, meaning the toll that is displayed on the sign.

Larger qualifying vehicles like tall passenger vans, commercial vans, box trucks, and flatbed trucks are charged either three or five times (3x or 5x) the displayed toll depending on the size:

  • Vehicles that are taller than 7 feet or longer than 23 feet pay 3x the current toll. If you see $3 on the toll sign, you will be charged $9.
  • Vehicles that are both taller than 7 feet and longer than 23 feet pay 5x the current toll. If you see $3 on the toll sign, you will be charged $15.

To provide a smooth driving experience for all our customers, we charge higher rates for vehicles that are taller than 7 feet or longer than 23 feet. We use technology on our Express Lanes to measure vehicle dimensions and determine the toll rate.

Normally my ride is under this size, but will I be charged a higher toll if I have a kayak, bike rack or knickknack stacked on top of or behind my car?

Even if your vehicle is normally under 7 feet tall or 23 feet long, any cargo or temporary accessory that extends its height or length can trigger the higher rate. But don't worry - if this happens to you, just contact us and we’ll make sure you pay the lower rate.

What size is my vehicle?

Under 7 feet

Almost all personal passenger vehicles, including the largest SUVs and pickup trucks, are under 7 feet tall and less than 23 feet long.

Here is a roadmap to finding or estimating your vehicle’s size:
  • The best source is your vehicle owner’s manual. Check that first. You can also grab a tape measure to verify your ride’s height and length.
  • "Okay Google, how tall is a 2020 Ford Expedition?" Don't forget, you can search online, too.
  • Does your vehicle fit in a parking garage? It's likely under 7 feet tall.
  • A typical parking space is between 18 to 20 feet long. Does your ride fit comfortably in most spots?
